In November, some archaeological signboards were removed by representatives of the local government, activists, and residents in the Batticaloa district. Commenting on the removal, the privately-owned Tamil newspaper Thamilan and the privately-owned Sinhala newspaper Divaina presented contrasting narratives on the legality of the signboards and the conduct of the government.
