On October 1, Cabinet Spokesperson Vijitha Herath hosted the new government’s inaugural media briefing. Some of the points raised by Herath included proposals to address ongoing ethnic issues through the introduction of a new constitution and the government’s stance on releasing political prisoners. A majority of the Tamil newspapers covered the above two topics. By contrast, none of the Sinhala newspapers covered the two topics.
