Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation and Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake stated that India can easily resolve the issues faced by Sri Lankan fisherfolk in Northern waters. He emphasised that this would be a significant assistance to the Tamil community in the North. He highlighted that the Northern Province has the highest number of fisherfolk, with many depending on fisheries for their livelihood. However, despite rich marine resources, Northern fisherfolk remain poorer than their Southern counterparts. Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mano Ganesan supported the minister’s stance, urging Sri Lankan leaders to include this issue in discussions when the Indian prime minister visits Sri Lanka next month. He stressed that Indian fisherfolk are plundering Sri Lankan resources, and a solution is long overdue.
Thamilan: All Ceylon Tamil Congress (ACTC) MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam raised concerns about Southern fisherfolk permanently settling in Nayaru, Mullaitivu with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy, threatening the livelihoods of local Tamil fisherfolk. He urged the fisheries minister to take immediate action to stop this encroachment.

The CSN money laundering case: The arrested Daisy Forrest granted bail

Daisy Forrest Wickramasinghe alias “Daisy Achchi” who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation was granted bail yesterday (5th). Forrest was arrested when she arrived at the CID yesterday (5th) morning to record a statement. The investigation in question is being conducted under the provisions of the Money Laundering Act. Previously, the son of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, Yoshitha Rajapaksa, was arrested and placed in remand custody in relation to this case. The investigation pertains to allegations of misuse of funds through a joint account associated with the CSN Channel. The lawyer representing Forrest stated that his client cannot even remember what she ate and does not have any intention of avoiding any court proceedings.

Strict laws to curb the corruption at the Customs: President issues directives
