UN human rights commissioner should visit Chemmani, and meet war affected people – British Tamil Forum urges
Virakesari
The British Tamil Forum (BTF) has requested United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk to pay a visit to Chemmani and meet the Tamil victims. In a letter to the high commissioner on May 27, 2025, the BTF urged him to visit Chemmani and Mullivaikkal to witness and consult with the Tamil victims about the ruthless and heinous human rights violations committed in these areas. It noted that with the recent excavations a few metres away from the Chemmani mass grave uncovering over 17 skeletons, including infants, stripped of their clothing, it is imperative that the high commissioner is ethically obliged to visit Chemmani and directly witness the situation and ensure justice and accountability incorporating victim-centric consultations.
