The Ministry of Buddhasasana has stated that it will engage in talks with the army and the relevant ministries regarding the Tissa Viharaya established in Thaiyiddy, Jaffna. Secretary of the Ministry of Buddhasasana A.M.P.M.B. Atapattu further stated that, taking into consideration that this issue is considered sensitive in terms of national unity, efforts are being made to find a solution to the confusion in this regard.
Thinakaran reports that the protest against the temple being built in Thaiyiddy entered its third day yesterday (13th) and that supporters of political parties also participated in the protest led by land owners.

The anti-separatist coalition in Sri Lanka participated in a protest in front of the U.S. Embassy in Colombo. Sarath Weerasekara made the above statement while participating in the protest. Protest in front of the Tissa Vihara: TNPF MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam called to court

The Mallakam Magistrate’s Court issued a summons to Leader of the Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) and Jaffna District MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam over protesting in front of the Tissa Vihararaya in Thaiyiddy while violating court orders. The Mallakam Police had obtained a restraining order against the MP and his supporters on Tuesday (11th) after receiving information that the MP had organised to stage a protest in front of the viharaya. Accordingly, the police had obtained the order stating that there is a risk of public peace being disrupted due to the potential protests that might be conducted in front of the viharaya.

Reportedly, after consideration, a three-judge bench issued the order to hear the petition. These misleading advertisements, which are often shared on social media and unauthorised platforms, have been misusing the official logo of the CBSL to mislead job seekers. The CBSL clarified that it currently does not have any vacancies and that it does not post job vacancies on third-party social media pages. It noted that all official recruitment announcements are exclusively available on the CBSL website under the Careers section and through its verified social media channels. Accordingly, the CBSL urged the public to remain vigilant against such scams and to verify any job-related information directly through official CBSL platforms. |
Investigations into excessive wealth of police officers; some have even built houses like palaces

The intelligence units are currently gathering information about police officers who have excessive wealth and property that cannot be obtained even by saving without spending the salaries and allowances received during their service. Intelligence units have also found that the properties of some police officers are under the names of their relatives. An intelligence officer stated that bribery, corruption and fraud are behind the acquisition of property which the officers in question did not have when they joined the police service.

Adani Green Energy, a part of the Adani Group, has decided to withdraw from its wind energy project in Mannar, Sri Lanka. The company cited delays including undetermined environmental clearance and an ongoing Supreme Court case as reasons for the withdrawal. Accordingly, the company has informed the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka of its decision to withdraw from the said project while remaining open to future projects. Indian media reported that Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) officially withdrew from its proposed USD 1 billion renewable wind power plant citing prolonged discussions and new government renegotiation efforts with the appointment of new cabinet committees. The
papers reported that 14 rounds of discussions had been conducted regarding the issue across two years and that the company had secured most approvals. However, with a new Cabinet-appointed negotiations committee (CANC) and Project Committee (PC) being constituted to renegotiate the proposal, the Adani Group has decided to step away from the project.

The Attorney General (AG) has informed the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court that the recent recommendation he made regarding the suspects involved in the murder case of Sri Lankan journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge will be suspended temporarily. Accordingly, the AG informed the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court of this in writing yesterday (14th). Controversially, the AG had previously provided his legal advice to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the possible release of three individuals who had been named as suspects in the case.
