Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa made various statements during the Cabinet media briefing.
Thinakkural, Thamilan, Thinakaran: Jayatissa claimed that investigations are underway against former State Minister Sivanesathurai Santhirakanthan, also known as Pillayan, in connection with several other allegations against him, adding that investigations are not limited to the allegation of kidnapping the vice-chancellor of the Eastern University but evidence is currently being received regarding several other allegations against him.

Dan Priyasad in critical condition after being shot

Social activist and SLPP Kolonnawa Urban Council candidate Dan Priyasad was injured in a shooting incident last night (22nd). Reportedly, Priyasad was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit. The shooting had occurred at the Laksanda Sevana Housing Complex in Wellampitiya at around 9.10 pm last night (22nd). It is reported further that two individuals, who had arrived on a motorcycle, fired multiple gunshots at Priyasad before fleeing the scene. Priyasad was reportedly shot four times. Another individual who had sustained minor injuries during the incident is also currently receiving treatment at hospital.
A tense situation arose at the Matara Prison when a group of inmates attempted to escape the prison

Police Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manathunga stated that a four-member police committee has been appointed to study and investigate the Presidential Commission of Inquiry report on the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks. SSP Manathunga stated further that the committee will be headed by Senior DIG Asanka Karawita. The committee also consists of the DIG in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the director of the CID and the director of the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID). Manathunga stated further that several other sub-committees have also been appointed under the purview of the main committee, which have already commenced studying the report.
AG requests special trial-at-bar for Keheliya Rambukwella’s case

The attorney general (AG) has made a request from the chief justice for a trial-at-bar with a three-judge bench to hear the case against former Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella in connection with the importation of substandard immunoglobulin vaccines. Rambukwella was in remand custody for seven months over the issue, and was granted bail in September 2024. Rambukwella, along with several Health Ministry officials, was arrested and remanded after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) launched an investigation into allegations that a pharmaceutical company had imported 22,500 vials of substandard immunoglobulin vaccines by creating forged documents with the assistance of two senior state officials.
