Thamilan, Virakesari, Thinakkural

Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) MP Sivagnanam Shritharan posed many questions to the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Hiniduma Sunil Senevi on the Tissa Rajamaha Viharaya which is located at Thaiyiddy, Jaffna. He raised questions such as, “Is the minister aware that a temple named Tissa Rajamaha Viharaya has been constructed on public land? Is the minister aware that the owners of the approximately 20 acres of land on which the temple is constructed have been non-violently protesting for a very long time to have the temple removed and their lands handed over to them? Was the land already acquired by the government under the Land Acquisition Act No. 09 of 1950, as amended? If so, will the minister inform the number of the relevant gazette publication and for what purpose it was acquired? Is the minister aware that land acquired for one purpose cannot be used for another purpose? If the land on which the temple is located is not approved for the construction of the temple, will the minister accept that the construction of the temple within that land is against the law?” However, the minister, who was listening to everything quietly, requested that one week be given to answer these questions.
